Lina's "happening" birth
My "happening" birth
It was supposed to be a calm water birth experience with my second, but he could not wait to see the world!
On Thursday morning, I saw blood streak so I told myself and my eldest that baby is coming soon. Also, I texted hubby "Baby is coming tonight or tomorrow morning". At the same time, I messaged my doctor and informed him of the blood streak, he reassured me that would not be a problem. I ran my daily routine as usual for the rest of the day with cramps which lasted for half a day. I waved off the idea as surges as the cramp was continuous and they were not strong.
Friday morning 1am, I was slightly awaken by some cramps. Again, I ignored them thinking it could be the food I ate last night? I continued sleeping till 3am and woke up to the washroom to find blood streaks again. This time I was sure it was blood show - baby was coming.
I was still very calm and laid down trying to sleep to store my energy in preparation for labour. My instinct told me that baby might be coming soon, so 340am I woke my hubby up to inform him about it. Hubby asked me to time my surges while he prepared himself.
As our house is 30 minutes away from hospital (if there is no traffic), but it was a Friday(a working day), traffic would be bad. Thus, we decided to depart to hospital latest by 6am even if surges were not strong.
(We had communicated with doctor in our birth plan that we would stay home till nearing labour.)
Throughout the next 1-hour, I had surges with 5 minutes apart which stayed for an average of 70 seconds. During surges, I used surge breathing to assist me. During interval, I used calm breathing to calm down myself.
Hubby prepared himself and asked for my sister's help to look after our eldest. While I was having a hot bath, surges got stronger and this time my instinct told me baby should be coming very soon, maybe 7+ in the morning.
530am. We waved goodbye to our eldest who was still sleeping and departed to hospital.
6am. We arrived at hospital. The nurses quickly put me on CTG. During the 30 minutes CTG process, surges were getting stronger and stronger. However, I still managed to talk and read. Throughout the process, again, both calm breathing and surge breathing were involved.
650am. Nurses observed through CTG data that my surges were getting stronger and more frequent. As my gynae was still making his way to the hospital, nurses prepared for my labour. They put the water in the tub but disallowed me to enter as only with my gynae's permission that they can let me in.
Throughout the wait, surges were getting stronger and stronger. There were consistent urge to push. But I remembered my j-breathing. So, I calmed down and did j-breathing whenever there was an urge to push.
Finally my gynae arrived. And upon examination, he said that it was too late to enter the tub. Baby could not wait. So, with the following surge, it's the time!
Finally baby came out smoothly!
The whole process was so smooth and quick and sudden that I thought I was in a dreamland.
Nope, Its not a dream. I have my baby in my arms now.
Thanks to my hubby who accompanied me throughout the labour. He willingly spent time to accompany me to go through the full course of hypnobirthing class, applying light touch massage for me whenever surges were there, and attended as many gynae appointments with me as he could.
Thanks to my family members for the help in taking care of my eldest. Also not forgetting to nourish me with nutritious meals and chauffeuring me around.
Thanks to Jaye for spending time (we were the only couple for the course) with us for the hypnobirthing classes. All the relaxation techniques were useful and knowledge gained through the course can be applied not only during labour, but daily use as well.
The Hypnobirthing class indeed helped me as a second time mother to learn more of birthing preferences and relaxation techniques. Hypnobirthing rocks!
